Alte Welt Gasthof Tea Cakes

This recipe is well over 100-years old. It has won several awards at county fairs.

• Pre-heat oven to 375 degrees
• Sift 4 cups flour into a large pan
• Pat out a well in the middle of the flour
• Pour into well:
• 2 cups sugar
• 2 eggs
• ½ cup buttermilk
• 1 cup shortening
• ½ teaspoon salt
• 1 teaspoon soda
• 2 teaspoons vanilla extract (or favorite flavor)
• Kneed dough by hand----flour to roll
• Roll out the dough, then cut out cookies
• Bake until done

Makes approximately 2 dozen 2” cookies
