ALTE WELT GASTHOF TEA CAKES -
This recipe is well over 100-years old. It has won several awards at county fairs.
Pre-heat oven to 375 degrees
Sift 4 cups flour into a large pan
Pat out a well in the middle of the flour
Pour into well:
2 cups sugar
2 eggs
½ cup buttermilk
1 cup shortening
½ teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon soda
2 teaspoons vanilla extract (or favorite flavor)
Kneed dough by hand----flour to roll
Roll out the dough, then cut out cookies
Bake until done
Makes approximately 2 dozen 2” cookies |
